The Story
This fan-made documentary explores the unique and unexpected impact the popular TV show The Office has had on the city of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Moving beyond the fictional world of Dunder Mifflin, the film delves into the real-life connection between The Office and Scranton, uncovering the city’s rich history, vibrant culture, and the many ways the show has shaped its identity.
It’s been 20 years since the pilot aired on March 24, 2005, and The Office has helped transform Scranton from a “coal town to a cool town.” Viewers will hear from notable figures such as Tim Holmes, Michele Dempsey, Mari Potis, Mayor Paige Cognetti, former Scranton Mayor Christopher Doherty, and many more. Additionally, some fan-favorite cast members—including Andy Buckley, Angela Kinsey, and Kate Flannery make appearances in the documentary.
This hour-long documentary is available for free on YouTube and Facebook, with hopes of eventually bringing it to Peacock.
A small group of friends from Erie, Pennsylvania, created this project, traveling to Scranton twice last summer and fall. They also made a trip to Miami, Florida, to attend The Office Reunion Con, a major convention celebrating the show.
